Cedar Table
I don’t often work in cedar: it's super-figured, but the wood has lots of knots and is prone to cracking; and the tree’s natural oils require special adhesives to bond pieces together. But this was a special project: a woman called to ask if I could make a table from a tree that had fallen in her yard. Not just any tree, this was the tree that she spent hours with as a child, swinging under its branches. She wanted to honor the tree and her memories by creating a table from the tree’s wood.
Approximately 4x6 feet.
Bowties put in the underside to hold a crack.
Cedar has a magnificent color and grain.
I added even more bracing under the table to keep the cedar from separating.
