Display case for historic canoe that Woody found while paddling on the Chattooga River.
The big thrill for me for this project is that I spotted this canoe while teaching a paddling clinic on the Chattooga, and then full circle, The Chattooga Conservancy and the state of South Carolina commissioned me to create the case to display it.
The case is 24 feet long to hold the 23-foot canoe, with six-foot sheets of tempered glass. A backsplash, also from sycamore, that I engraved with the story and photos of the canoe, has been added.
Come visit the canoe at The Gauge Coffee House, 14239 Long Creek Hwy in Long Creek, SC. Read the story about the recovery of the canoe on the Chattooga Conservancy website.
Woody also created backsplash with part of the story of this canoe and laser-engraved photographs.
The case needed to be 2 pieces for transport and to get it into the building, then assembled on-site.
The satin Rubio Monocoat finish really brings out the colors and spaulting of the wood.

The backsplash of information I created on sycamore using my laser engraver, which handles graphics like text and logos, and photographs.
